Hyperprolactinemia: evaluation and management
RE Blackwell - Endocrinology and metabolism clinics of North America, 1992 - Elsevier
Hyperprolactinemia has many causes, the most common being disorders of dopamine
metabolism, hypothyroidism, prolactinomas, and medications. These patients are usually
evaluated with multiple prolactin measurements, thyroxine, thyroid-stimulating hormone, and
radiographic imaging such as CT scanning or MRI. The majority of hypothyroid
hyperprolactinemic patients respond to dopamine agonist therapy and frequently require
lifetime management of the disorder.
